Sources inside Apple indicate the company is pioneering an internal application, codenamed “Veritas” (Latin for “truth“), that functions similarly to large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT. This tool is reportedly a crucial component of the engineering team’s efforts to develop a smarter, next-generation Siri.
The primary function of this proprietary application is to facilitate internal testing of advanced Siri capabilities. These include deeply personalized search functions, allowing the AI to navigate and retrieve user-specific data such as emails, photographs, videos, and music. Furthermore, “Veritas” is being used to test the execution of sophisticated, in-app actions, like editing images directly through voice commands.
While the app mirrors the interactive conversation and chat history features of public-facing chatbots, it remains strictly an internal utility. Despite the robust capabilities being tested, Apple leadership has consistently expressed reservations about entering the highly competitive AI chatbot market. This ongoing corporate posture explains why there are currently no plans to launch “Veritas” for consumers.

The rollout of this more intelligent, LLM-backed Siri has been postponed. Originally anticipated for release this spring, the updated timeframe is now projected for March of next year. To accelerate development, Apple is reportedly engaging in high-level discussions with major AI developers, including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Beyond Siri, the company also aims to infuse this advanced AI functionality into its broader ecosystem, targeting products like HomePod, Apple TV, and other smart home devices.
